Hip Roof Gable Wall
Having a doozy converting the default hip to gable roofs.
Hip roof gable wall. A hip roof is a roof in which the roof slopes upward from all four exterior walls to meet at a central ridge. A hip roof has roof planes built over every exterior wall in the plan that does not have another wall drawn above it.
Click on the side of one of the roof planes to select it. To create a hip roof using manual roof planes we will use the existing plan from the section above, but first we will need to delete the existing roof planes in our plan by selecting build> roof> delete roof planes.
Changing from a hip to a gable roof in order to convert the loft involves replacing an existing roof hip with a gable end wall. Though, in practical terms, it isn’t as easy as it sounds.
These kind of conversions require altering the external form of the roof and, as such, the householder would need to apply for planning permission before going ahead with this type of project. A roof with a gable wall construction will slope on two sides, the side wall is triangle shape and finishes at ridge height.
Draw manual roof planes over each exterior wall of the plan. When you no longer need to build the roof, auto build roof can be turned off.
The new pic of the chimney side of the house, reveals this part of the wall to be a gable ( not a hip ). A major consideration is whether or not the new hip needs support from below and how difficult that support would be to build.
To create an automatic gable roof. For your information, the 50 cu.m volume would include that of the hip to gable roof extension and the rear dormer and not just the latter on its own.
The gable roof (also known as a pitched or peaked roof) is ideal for ease of snow removal but is prone to lifting in high winds and needs bracing if it’s used in areas that have high winds and hurricanes. It is a variant of a hip roof depicting a small modification at the top of the gable.
There are no gable ends on a building with a hip roof. A hip roof has roof panels on all four sides, while a gable roof has only two.
